Magic Carpet Rides

During Spring semester, you create a four-month Research Project, which may be a continuation of your first semester service internship or an exploration of other interests in Guatemala or throughout Central America.  The course of study, including educational goals, is formally outlined during our semester kick-off retreat under MCR direction.

For example, you may implement a theater class in a local junior high school, investigate the Maya heritage through temples in Guatemala, Honduras  or Mexico, provide social work to impoverished families in Nicaragua or record the health of the reef through photography in Belize.

MCR staff provides guidance on your curriculum development and helps define benchmarks that you are responsible for meeting and documenting in weekly progress reports.  While encouraging and nurturing personal responsibility, at no time are you without the oversight of Magic Carpet Rides.

A two-week Integration Seminar concludes Spring semester.  During this time, you synthesize your year of experience into a final creative expression such as a photography exhibit, comparative cross-cultural essay, or music performance.

Magic Carpet Rides provides advisory oversight for the Inergration projects as well as a final evaluation to determine successful completion of the Magic Carpet Rides curriculum.  You will have the opportunity to present your final project to your class with the possibility of a community audience as well as publishing results on the MagicCarpetRides.org website.   Back to Top
